Parents interested in TALi Train
Here you'll find frequently asked questions from parents and guardians who are researching TALi Train with the intention of participating in the 5 week training program with their child.
TALi Train should not be too difficult for your child as long as they meet the requirements to play TALi Train. The program was designed for children developmentally aged 3-8 either neuro-typical or with attention disorders.
In order to be successful, we recommend that you block out time for your child’s training and play alongside them on a daily basis. TALi Train was built to be a skill-adaptive game which means that the difficulty increases or decreases based on your child’s performance on the day - always keeping your child challenged. This also means that if your child is having a bad day they will still come away feeling confident.
The TALi Train program is designed to be engaging, with four fun interactive attention games each session. Each game runs for four minutes and is adaptive in speed and complexity to meet your child’s ability on the day. This means that even if your child is having a “bad” day, the game will challenge them at their level.
If your child seems to lose focus on the TALi Train game at the start, we recommend you sit with them and keep them on task. If you do this for the first few of sessions, you should begin to see your child’s focus improve.

TALi Train was designed to be a 5 week intensive attention training program. Our research shows that the attention gains made by using the TALi Train program are still present up to 3 months after finishing the course.
TALi is a digital health innovation company that specialises in making and producing game based software to improve the lives of young children. We are in the process of developing a maintenance program to be used after the completion of TALi Train. Unfortunately we do not have a date for completion of this program. At this time, we can only recommend that your child play TALi Train again as maintenance.
If you'd like your child to play TALi Train again, please contact the TALi team to learn about the benefits of playing TALi Train a second time.
TALi Train has clinically proven to be effective if used 5 times a week over a 5 week period. In order to achieve the benefits it’s best to keep the child on a daily schedule. If the child misses a day, we recommend you make up the day later in the week.
Because TALi Train is a training program or attention treatment, we make a comparison having a cold and taking your medication. For instance, imagine you were prescribed antibiotics for an illness and were meant to take medicine twice a day for 2 weeks. If you miss one or two tablets over the course, then it may not be an issue. But, if you took 2 tablets on day one and waited a week to resume the schedule, the antibiotics will likely be less effective.
Our evidence shows that by repeating the training regularly over the 5 week period, you will see stronger results.
If your think your child will need a long break from the program, or you have unusual circumstances, please contact us.
Yes, your child can use different devices to play TALi Train, however you can only be logged into one device at a time. The program has been built this way to make sure you have good representative data of your child’s progress. If you need to use a different device, make sure to log out of the original device before you start on another.
If you forget to log out of the original device and don’t have access to it, contact TALi and we'll manually log you out.
Yes. The TALi Train program was designed so that you don’t need WiFi to play the game. You only need to be connected to WiFi in three cases:
- When you initially download the program and login, you need to be connected to WiFi.
- In order to upload your child’s progress data.
- If you log out and need to log back in.
As long as your child remains logged into the program, the games will operate without WiFi.
We recommend that you connect to WiFi every few days to make sure that your child’s progress data is uploaded.
If you’re not able to reach WiFi, the data will be stored on your device for the duration of the program.
Yes your child can use TALi Train. The program can be used as stand alone or in conjunction with your child’s normal medication regime.
If your child is going to use TALi Train while on medication it’s worth letting your primary medical practitioner know so that they are aware of a new variable in your child’s routine. If you’d like something specific to provide to your primary care practitioner you can download the TALi research compendium for them.
Children who have attention difficulties may frequently appear to be disorganised or forgetful. This often occurs because the child does not pay sufficient attention to what they are doing at the time or he or she struggles with knowing what to attend to.
Imagine what would happen if you attended to everything you came across each day and had no way of filtering what was and wasn’t important. You would hit a memory overload and could potentially forget everything. Attention helps to reduce this overload by allowing us to focus only on what’s important and to employ cognitive effort to remember important aspects.
So, there is a difference between attention and working memory. Having attention allows for information to be taken in and to select what’s important. Working memory then comes into play and helps helps us remember and recall that information when we need it. Many children who struggle to learn have attention issues, working memory issues, or both. Attention is the foundation for improving memory.
Using the TALi Train program will help your child learn to block out distractions and to focus on what they are doing. This means that the child’s is growing the foundations to improve memory.
The TALi team addresses this concern in three ways.
Firstly, we recommend that you block out time for the child and play with them on a daily basis. Creating a routine will improve your child’s focus and likelihood of success.
Secondly, the TALi Train program is built around the concept of positive reinforcement. Throughout the game your child will be rewarded both verbally and in text during the exercises. At the end of each game your child receives a reward in the form of a digital toy, and at the end of the session your child can play in the TALi Toy Room.
Finally, TALi Train is an adaptive game which means that the difficulty increases or decreases based on your child’s performance on the day - always keeping them challenged. This also means that if your child is having a bad day they will still come away feeling confident.
TALi Train has been designed to help children who have difficulties with attention. With that in mind, it’s a short 5 week intensive training program designed to appeal to children.
There are 4 TALi characters with different attributes, each appealing to a range of childhood interests. Each session your child will be able to choose a different TALi and after training for 10 sessions your child will be able to choose between the carnival or space theme.
For a child who often loses interest in games or tasks, we recommend you block out time for the child and play with them on a daily basis. Creating a routine often improves a child’s ability to complete tasks. If you do this for the first handful of sessions, you should begin to see your child’s focus improve.
Daydreaming is an important part of imagination but when the time comes to engage, it is important that your child can choose to focus. TALi Train has been designed to build and strengthen these skills.
TALi Train’s control training game will help your child develop the skills to choose what they attend to. The TALi focus game will support your child’s attention control by helping them to stay focussed on the important thing once they have chosen to attend to it.
Children with attention difficulties often show restless and impulsive behaviours. TALi Train has been designed to help them by developing their four core attention skills.
In particular, the inhibition exercise will challenge your child to resist impulsive responses. Increasing inhibition means that they will stay seated for longer and not blurt out answers or interrupt.
TALi Train is designed to be delivered via iOS and Android tablets. You can review our full device support list here
